Microsoft released an add-in for Office 2007 that allows you to export and save your documents to PDF and XPS formats in eight 2007 Microsoft Office programs. It also allows you to send as e-mail attachment in the PDF and XPS formats in a subset of these programs.

Portable Document Format (PDF) format ensures your printed or viewed file retains the formatting that you intended, and that data in the file cannot easily be changed. The PDF format is also useful if you intend to use commercial printing methods.

XML Paper Specification (XPS)  is a format just like PDF from microsoft that preserves document formatting and enables file sharing. When the XPS file is viewed online or printed, it retains exactly the format that you intended, and the data in the file cannot be easily changed.

How To Save Your Office 2007 documents in PDF Format:

After you download and install this Microsoft Office 2007 Add-in open the document you want to publish and then, depending on the program you are using, select Save or Publish to PDF or XPS from the Office or File menu (As shown in Screenshot).

Stop Annoying pop-up to upgrade to Avast v5.0

 For those who would like to get rid of the annoying "NAG" window for version 5 update, do the following:

1. Disable the self-defense module. To disable the avast! Self-defense module:

Right click avast! tray icon --> program settings -->'Troubleshooting' tab --> check- 'Disable avast! self-defense module'

2. Locate and rename the file "asw5Not2.exe". It should be located in the Avast4 folder.
3. Re-enable the self-defense module.

Will foreclosed homeowners get their homes back?

Regarding the recent foreclosure scandal CNN Money says, "Forget it. You're not getting your house back."

Is this the break that millions of people have been hoping for?

Evidence continues to mount that major banks flouted their own foreclosure procedures — and possibly the law — when repossessing homes from owners who fell behind on payments.

And that begs the question: Can owners who were wrongfully evicted take their home back? ...

Experts say that very few homeowners will ever get their houses back. The possible exception: The handful of people who were wrongfully swept up by the mortgage tsunami, despite the fact that they were current on their payments.

But getting a judge to unwind a foreclosure is tough.

"The law imposes a very heavy burden on those seeking to attack final court judgments," says Robert Lawless, a professor at the University of Illinois College of Law.

If a court does rule a foreclosure invalid, either because the lender didn't have the paperwork in order or because the mortgage was not actually in default, a home's title will revert to the original owner, even if the property has since been purchased by a third party. ...

But one thing is clear: If the original homeowner doesn't have the cash to catch up on the mortgage, the lender will restart the foreclosure process and, with the paperwork in order this time, repossess the house.

P02 (Carriage error)

1. Make sure no foreign material stuck to the print head railway.
2. Clean and check the print head encoder strip cable (timing slit film or encoder strip is a white line on the back of the box set of ink lines may be missing or mess up the ink.

P03 (Line feed error): an error in transmission line entering the line feed (LF) is a signal telling the printer to move to another line or a whole new line that would not otherwise have reached the end of the line.

1. Check wire print head position (timing slit disk film) on the side of the machine.
2. Check PCB logic board.

P05 (ASF sensor error) sensor for paper feed error.  

1. Try to replace the following:

• ASF / PE sensor unit.
• Drive unit.
• PCB logic board.

P06 (Internal temperature error): caused by abnormal heat inside the printer.

P07 (Ink absorber full): the Ink Wastepad (sponge) inside the printer is full

1. Replace the wastepad inside the printer or install  waste ink bin outside the printer
2. then Reset counter protection.

P08 (Print head temperature rise error): caused by thermal print head temperature exceeds a threshold.

1. Replace the new cartridge print head and / or change a new logic board.

P09 (EEPROM error): caused by corrupted or defective EEPROM chips of the printer.

P15 (USB VBUS over current): caused by too much current, try removing the USB cable and then plugin again, if solve the error, try to replace with a new USB cable. If the error still exist replace the logic board.

P20 (Other hardware error): The failure of other hardware.

P22 (Scanner error): a scanner malfunction.

How to use Asus USB/MIR adaptor to other motherboard

One of my client recently try to use the ASUS USB/MIR REV. 1.11 (the 2 usb port type) adaptor which he got from his old ASUS motherboard to his new computer. His problem is any USB storage device he try to insert in ASUS USB/MIR port a "USB Device Not Recognized" pop-up appear.

The problem is, Asus have fitted filtering on the two data lines to each USB port in the form of a series resistor (10 ohms on one line and 4.7 ohms on the other) and a shunt capacitor to ground at the USB socket end which cause the problem.

The only solution is to remove this filtering by removing the four SMD capacitor (C2, C3, C4, C5). Do not remove C1, C6 and the electrolytics CE1 and CE2. I use hot air rework station to remove those SMD capacitors. After the removal the Asus USB/MIR device recognized any USB flash drive that I inserted.

Illinois Tool Works CEO predicts weak 2011 for housing industry

The Illinois Tool Works CEO, whose company makes equipment for housing construction, predicts no housing industry improvement until 2012:

The U.S. housing industry will continue to struggle through 2011 and likely won’t improve significantly until 2012, Illinois Tool Works Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive David Speer predicts.

High rates of mortgage of foreclosures and falling housing prices will continue to provide headwinds for sales of new and existing homes, Mr. Speer says. Moreover, persistently high levels of unemployment will dampen consumers’ interest in residential real estate.

“The consumer is still facing tremendous challenges, certainly in the housing market,” Mr. Speer says.

Mr. Speer’s Glenview, Ill., company operates more than 800 separate manufacturing businesses covering a variety of industrial sectors, including construction, automotive, packaging and food service. About 20% of ITW’s $13.9 billion in sales last year came from products used in real estate construction and remodeling work.

America's outdated land title system

Economist Arnold Kling gives his thoughts on the growing foreclosure scandal:

If [George] Washington were to visit the county office where property records are maintained, he might feel right at home. Often, documents have the same legal format as in the 18th century, and they are maintained in pretty much the same manner.

On the other hand, if Washington were to visit a 21st-century financial firm that deals in mortgage securities, he would be thoroughly bewildered. There he would find computers maintaining records in electronic format that are far more complex than anything that existed in his day. ...

What has emerged in recent weeks as "the foreclosure scandal" represents the collision of this 21st-century computerized, global financial system with an 18th-century legal process for obtaining ownership rights to buildings and land. Indeed, the United States has one of the most backward land-title systems in the industrial world.

If we wanted, we could apply modern technology to the land-title process. We could base property boundaries on satellite photography rather than on surveyor's sketches. We could use precise coordinates for latitude and longitude instead of references to topographical features. We could maintain records in digital format, where they could be accessed on the Internet. ...

Doing so would provide a number of benefits. For instance, we could make property ownership sufficiently secure that we could do away with the wasteful, expensive service known as title insurance. ...

A modern titling system also would reduce the cost to mortgage lenders of complying with the process of recording a title. ...

When foreclosing on a property, the lender must, like any other seller, establish clear rights to the property before selling it. It is in that step — where the lender must produce the proper paperwork to comply with legal standards using antiquated recording methods — that many banks apparently took shortcuts, forged signatures or used documents that were only re-creations of the originals.

The former head of Ginnie Mae discusses the recent foreclosure freezes

He also predicts "further declines in the housing prices in this country."


From the CNBC interview:

Although the foreclosure freeze is stabilizing the housing market for the time being, it will trigger further housing price declines two to four quarters out, Joseph Murin, former president of the Government National Mortgage Association [Ginnie Mae] told CNBC on Monday.

"What it will cause is a more eroding of confidence in the American people," he said. "And when the American people aren't confident, they're not going to respond, which means the housing market is going to remain sluggish."

Foreclosure stalling is necessary for institutions to reassess whether they are processing correctly, Murin went on to say.

"There's no fraud involved in this," he said. "It's process inadequacy that's causing the problem. Behind the scenes, we're dealing with technology and experience that's probably a decade old. It's not kept up with the huge push [in mortgage debt]."

The Google Price Index

For those of you who refuse to trust the U.S. government's economic statistics:

Google is using its vast database of web shopping data to construct the ‘Google Price Index’ – a daily measure of inflation that could one day provide an alternative to official statistics.

The mix of goods sold over the internet is different to the mix of goods sold in the wider economy.

The work by Google’s chief economist, Hal Varian, highlights how economic data can be gathered far more rapidly using online sources. The official Consumer Price Index data are collected by hand from shops, and only published monthly with a time lag of several weeks.

At the National Association of Business Economists conference in Denver, Colorado, Mr Varian said that the GPI was a work in progress and Google had not yet decided whether to publish it.

While the Federal Reserve is unlikely to panic just yet, Mr Varian said that the GPI shows a “very clear deflationary trend” for web-traded goods in the US since Christmas.

Of course, Google is a big corporation and we know from the Democrats that big corporations can't be trusted. Perhaps we shouldn't trust anyone.

Job market: Mixed results for September 2010

The unemployment rate, at 9.6%, remained unchanged in September. Although it is below its late 2009 peak, it has spent almost all of 2010 (except April) in a range of 9.5-9.7%.


Payrolls continued to get worse in September. Ironically, businesses are actually increasing workers. It is governments that are losing workers. John Maynard Keynes must be rolling over in his grave.


On the bright side, aggregate weekly hours worked is increasing. This suggests that underemployment is declining.

Boot your Droid X into recovery mode

It’s always good to know how to get it into recovery mode. This little trick probably won’t be used much until the Android hacking/developing crowd gains root access to our new Droid X, but you might as well know about it now. And no, this won’t brick your phone.

Instructions…

1.  Turn your phone off.
2.  Hold down “Home” and press “Power” until the Motorola logo appears.
3.  Release  ”Power” and continue to hold “Home” until an exclamation appears.
4.  Release “Home” and press the “Search” button once.
5.  Your phone will now enter recovery.

To get out of it, simply use your volume up and down buttons until “reboot system now” is highlighted and then press the camera button.

How To reset Epson SX105 and SX106

    Epson SX105 and SX106 Adjustment Program cracked by OrTHoTaMiNe

Please follow the steps below to reset the protection counter effectively.

1. Double click AdjProg.exe.
2. Click “Accept” button.
3. Click "Select" button. and select your printer model then click "OK"
   
4. Click “Particular adjustment mode” button.
5. Select on “Waste ink pad counter” and click “OK” button.
6. Click on “Initialization” button and the program will reset the protection counter.
7. Turn off the printer as a program instructed then turn on again.
8. Click “Finish” button. and its done!

Warning: You might end up with ink leaking out of the printer if you don't either replace the waste ink pad or install external waste bin.

How to reset Canon Pixma IP2770

Canon PIXMA iP2770 are classified into photo printers. This printer is very suitable for use at home. Results in getting the equivalent of lab quality photos. The speed  of this printer quickly spelled out that is about 7 ipm for mono and the 4.8 ipm for color and for 4R-sized photo takes 55 seconds. If a lights blink on the POWER and RESUME button alternately and it will show an error 5B00. It means that your ink absorber inside the printer is almost full. In order to solve this you need to clear or reset the counter protection of your printer. To do this, follow this steps.

First make sure that the power cable and usb cable are connected, before you perform the reset procedure. And download the resetter at the bottom of this post.

FIRST STEPS:  Entering Service Mode

You have to enter in service mode in order to used the resetter. To do that follow this procedure,

1. Turn off the printer without pulling the power cords.

2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.

3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.

4. Then Press Resume button 5 times then let BOTH buttons go.

5. You will notice that the Alternate Blinking error is gone, this means that the printer is in Service Mode state.

SECOND STEPS: Using the Resetter

1. After you download the resetter, extract it and double click "servicetool.exe"

2. Press the "Main" Button, Then press "EEPROM Clear" button if a pop-up appear just click OK

5. Then power off the printer(sometimes you have to press twice the power button to turn off) and turn on again. and its done!

Warning: Getting rid of the error message won’t change that you might end up with ink leaking out of the printer if you don’t either replace or clean the ink wastepad.
