Downgrade iOS 5.0.1 To 4.3.3, 4.3.5 [Easy Guide]

iOS 5.0.1 has been released - and, chances are, you may be looking to downgrade to an earlier version of iOS because of one reason or another.Today, we’re going to guide you on how to do exactly that so you can go back to whichever version of iOS you are comfortable with.





Before you continue, though, keep in mind that you can only downgrade if you have previously backed up SHSH blobs for whichever version of iOS (4.x and below only) you wish to downgrade to. This is because of certain security checks used by Apple to ensure people stick to the latest version of iOS. It is also important to note that as of this writing, iOS 5.0 firmware is still being signed. You can downgrade to iOS 5.0 as long as it is being signed by Apple. The moment Apple stops signing iOS 5.0, you wont be able to downgrade to it even if you have SHSH blobs saved for it.


Step 1: Download the version of iOS to which you wish to downgrade to:
-iOS 4.3.5
-iOS 4.3.4
-iOS 4.3.3
-iOS 5.0

Step 2: Connect your iOS device with your computer via USB cable. Boot into Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. To do this, you will need to first turn off your device, press and hold Power + Home buttons for about 10 seconds, release the Power button while holding Home button for an extra 10 seconds. You’ll know when you’re in DFU mode, this is when the screen will gocompletely blank.

Step 3: Navigate to Windows > System 32 > drivers > etc on Windows or just etc on OS X. Locate a file named hosts, make a backup copy of it and then open it up with a text editor.

Step 4: Add the following code to hosts and save the file:


74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Step 5: Open up iTunes and choose your iOS device from the sidebar. While holding the Shift(on Windows) or Alt (on OS X) key, click on Restore and choose the firmware file you downloaded in Step 1.

Step 6: You may receive Error10xx after doing this, but there is no need to worry about it.

You must download a program like TinyUmbrella or Fix Recovery, open it up and click on Exit Recovery to get out of the error.

If you have already downloaded iOS 5, you might be wondering how to jailbreak it.

How To Jailbreak iOS 5 On Windows Using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1

Besides Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze is a tool to consider, assuming that you’re using an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3rd-generation iPod touch, 4th-generation iPod touch and the first-generation iPad.

iPad 2 and iPhone 4S support is not present as of yet.

This is a tethered jailbreak: this means that you’ll need to plug your device into your computer running a special application whenever your device is powered on, in order to boot it into a jailbroken state. We’ve included steps on how to perform this at the end of this guide.

You’ll need:

1. A supported device running iOS 5.
2. The latest version of Sn0wbreeze, which you can download from here.

Follow the steps below in order to get started.

STEP #1: make sure you have your iOS 5 firmware ready and launch Sn0wbreeze. If all goes well, you should see the window below. Click the blue arrow on the bottom right corner.

STEP #2: you should now be given the option to locate the iOS 5 firmware file. Make sure it’s selected, then click on the blue arrow once again.

STEP #3: if all goes smoothly, your device’s model as well as the firmware version you’re trying to jailbreak should be displayed. If the information displayed is accurate, you should be good to go.

STEP #4: the next screen should enable you to choose which mode you’d like to use to perform this jailbreak. If you’re planning to unlock your iPhone, select “Expert Mode”. Make sure you click on the blue arrow afterwards.

STEP #5: you should now be given a wide array of options. If you’re not sure what to do, just select “Build IPSW” and click on the blue arrow (again).

You’re almost done! Sn0wbreeze will now use its magic powers to pwn the iOS 5 IPSW file. No user interaction is required at this point, so feel free to drink a cup of coffee or play Pac-Man. You’ll be notified when the process is done; until then, do not exit Sn0wbreeze.

STEP #6: plug your device, if you haven’t already, and hit “OK”. Then you’ll be asked to enter your device into DFU mode, which you can do by following the on-screen instructions. If all goes as expected, your should get a confirmation prompt and your device’s screen should be black.

STEP #7: it’s now time for you to load the custom firmware onto your device. In order to do that, open iTunes, locate your device on the program’s sidebar and click on “Restore” while holding the Shift key on your keyboard. Select the modified firmware, hit OK and wait while iTunes applies the jailbroken firmware. Do not interrupt this process.

Booting Into Jailbroken Mode

As we mentioned at the beginning of this guide, this is a tethered jailbreak, meaning that your device will have to be plugged in to your computer every time it’s powered on, in order to boot into a jailbroken state.

You’ll need to follow these steps every time you power up your device.

STEP #1: launch iBooty and select your device from the drop-down and hit “Start”. If you’ve just jailbroken your device, which is likely the case if you’re reading this guide, iBooty should have popped up automatically.

STEP #2: once you’ve pressed the button, you’ll need to enter DFU mode by following the on-screen instructions.

STEP #3: let iBooty work its magic and be sure not to unplug your device yet, you’ll be instructed when to.

I’m pleased to announce that we’ve just released Beta 1 of Ac1dSn0w for Mac OS X Lion (should also work on Snow Leopard). Ac1dSn0w allows you to jailbreak your iDevice tethered. It also provides features like Tethered Boot, Pwned DFU, and Exit Recovery to get your device out of Recovery Loop.

Supported Devices (iOS5/iOS5.0.1):

• iPad 1

You may have to perform the following steps in order to jailbreak your device successfully.

1. Download Ac1dSn0w from (Down due to legal complication)

2. After downloading, open it and you’ll see the following screen:

Note:
You can click ‘Show Console’ to see some device related information. It also shows you the current state of your jailbreaking process. The Assistant Panel helps you to put your device into DFU Mode.

3. Connect your device with your Mac.

4. Turn your device off.

5. Click ‘Show Assistant’ and follow the onscreen instructions to enter DFU Mode.

6 . Once you’re in DFU Mode just hit the ‘Jailbreak’ Button and wait until it’s done (the device will reboot).

7. Put your device again into DFU Mode (Step 5) and hit the ‘Tethered Boot’ Button.

Done: Your device should now be jailbroken with Cydia installed.
